PRINTMAKING
Monotypes
Throughout this year I’ve closely focused on the art of crocheting and defying the boundaries surrounding the divisions between fine art and craft and asking the question ‘why isn’t craft considered fine art?’ I’m focusing on feminism and women’s work as a long-standing history and highlighting these topics throughout my pieces.
Using crochet pieces that I myself have made or old doilies from op shops that just sit in a box and never see the light of day. Experimenting and finding joy from these pieces in resorted to using them as 'plates' for monotype printing. and printing them just as they are with no manipulation or anything just the ink and the paper, in which I've found very successful.
Though the process of monotypes are quite simple: inking an object up and putting through the press I spent quite a bit of time trialing different types of materials; cotton/wool, 2ply/4ply to see how they print. Working on getting the press at the right tension to get the optimal detail in the print. It was a tedious process but i think it paid off in the end.
Though my process is quite simple it took quite a while to get it perfected,
